On these tumor samples c-kit expression was immunohistochemically evaluated using a polyclonal rabbit anti-human c-kit antibody (DAKO®). Staining results for each sample were scored from 0 (negative), + (weak), ++ (medium), +++ (strong). Results: c-kit immunopositivity was found in 37/ (13%) cases, whereas / (87%) cases were negative.

Immunohistochemical detection of c-KIT expression could be used to aid histological diagnosis of chromophobe RCC with a high sensitivity and specificity. The substantial c-Kit immunoreactivity in chromophobe RCC may be of clinical importance especially in the field of targeted therapy.
